www.chinanews.cn 2006-05-31 17:11:25
Chinanews, Beijing, May 31 (By Sun Zifa) - Officials from Embassies of
the United States, France, South Korea and Thailand in China and
representatives from foreign enterprises in China including Microsoft,
Intel, IBM and Honda were invited to attend a gathering at the State
Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) on Tuesday afternoon and participate
in face-to-face talks with Chinese officials on the issue of intellectual
property rights (IPR).
This is the first time that Chinese officials invited foreign officials
and foreign enterprise representatives in China to start face-to-face
talks on the IPR issue at the event known as "Business Communication
Session of SIPO."
According to Chinese officials, this session on IPR will be held in the
future at least once every six months at an appropriate time. The session
aims at enhancing the degree of transparency of SIPO's work and
efficiency so as to provide IPR-related public services in a better way.
At the first Business Communication Session of SIPO convened on May 30,
foreign officials in China and representatives from foreign enterprises
in China focused on issues such as shortening the period of patent
censorship, revision of the "Patent Law" and the handling of patent
infringement.
Chinese officials answered all questions posed by participants and also
revealed that 20 special research projects undertaken for revision of the
"Patent Law" have been completed in February with 37 reports submitted.
Based on these research results, SIPO will put forward a revised draft of
the "Patent Law" to the State Council by the end of this year and strive
to include the law in China's legislative calendar next year.
