Probably you can also find translation of Jonathan Spence's (史景迁) works on Chinese history
in some large bookstores. I think his books are very readable.

It is. My high school Chinese teacher used to recommend it. Lots of essays on it are considered as
models for Chinese middle school students. Possibly the same for Chinese learners.:)

IMO, should you contradistinguish two versions, original and translated, it will benefit learning
both mother language and target language. I tried this way and it was of use. And what we need...
